Located in the Vercors Regional Natural Park, Furon canyon is accessible to all and very varied. It's also very easy and fast to access from Grenoble, Lyon, Valence, and Chambéry.
The canyon takes its name from the Gorges du Furon. They are surrounded by limestone cliffs that have been shaped by the torrent now flowing to the bottom of the gorge. They have become a renowned canyoning spot in the region thanks to the diversity of its passages, the beauty of carved limestone and the forest that surrounds them. It is one of the most famous canyons in the Vercors Massif!
The Upper Furon canyon is perfect for an introduction to canyoning and lasts about 3 hours. If you seek bigger thrills, you can opt for the integral Furon canyon which is the sequence of its upper and lower part. It's a full day excursion in which you'll enjoy the most beautiful obstacles of both parts: jumps, toboggans, siphons (not compulsory), zip line and abseiling (up to 20m).
The departure of the canyon is located above Sassenage, just before the village of Engins on the road to Lans-en-Vercors.
First, you meet your Vertical Way's instructor at the departure of the canyon. After an approach walk of about 5 minutes, you put on your equipment and the canyoning instructor briefs you on the safety instructions.
Upper Furon: You enter the water with an impressive jump of 9 meters (not mandatory). During the descent, you meet many waterfalls that you'll cross through sliding, jumping or abseiling, not to mention the zip line that flows into a beautiful turquoise basin! You will spend most of the time walking in the clear water of natural pools.
Integral Furon: You start with the lower part in the morning to gain maximum comfort in order to fully enjoy the upper part in the afternoon!
The lower part of the canyon begins with an approach walk of 15 minutes.
Once equipped, you'll start the descent with abseiling, including one of 20 meters. You chained siphons and underground swimming and arrive at the top of the caves of Sassenage. You can then jump into beautiful basins.
After a picnic, you continue with the upper part of the canyon which is less technical and more fun with a zip line, jumps, and slides.
