Explore the second largest cave in Greece on this sea kayaking tour to Papanikolis Cave from Mikros Gialos in Lefkada!
Lefkada is a stunning Greek island located in the Ionian Sea. It is renowned for its amazing natural beauty, with sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and lush greenery. On this sea kayaking excursion in Lefkada, you'll explore some unique spots around this idyllic island!
The sea kayaking adventure begins at the starting point on Mikros Gialos, a picturesque beach situated on the southeastern coast of Lefkada, in the bay of Rouda. Upon arrival, you'll meet the certified instructor and receive the equipment (sea kayak, paddle, life vest, and dry bag). After a quick safety briefing and paddling instructions, you'll begin paddling along Lefkada's coastline.
The first stop on the tour is at Agios Ioannis Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Ionian Sea. This tranquil beach boasts a long stretch of golden sand and pebbles, with crystal-clear waters and a backdrop of rolling hills. You'll stop for a refreshing swim and snorkelling excursion, exploring the fascinating underwater world of the island. Then, you'll continue paddling along the western coast of the nearby island of Meganisi.
Along Meganisi's charming coast, you'll pass sandy coves, hidden beaches and unique rock formations that resemble corridors. You'll take another break at the famous Papanikolis Cave, a fascinating natural formation located on Meganisi Island. It is believed that the Greek submarine Papanikolis used the cave as a hideout from enemy forces during World War II. It is the second-largest sea cave in Greece and features impressive stalactites and a spacious interior that extends deep into the rock.
You'll enjoy a peaceful swim inside the cave and explore its interesting rocky features. Then, the sea kayaking excursion continues to a small secluded beach, where you'll have time for more swimming and underwater exploration with the snorkelling gear. A light Mediterranean-style lunch, biscuits and fresh fruits will also be served on the beach. After your delicious meal, you'll paddle back towards Agios Ioannis Beach.
Upon arrival at Agios Ioannis Beach, you'll stop for a short break and relax in the Greek sun. Then, you'll kayak across the strait that separates Meganisi from Lefkada. You'll have one last stop at the serene Kipi Beach, situated on the eastern coast of Meganisi. On this quiet beach, you'll admire a colony of large red starfish. The sea kayaking trip in Lefkada comes to an end back at the starting point on Mikros Gialos Beach.
