Immerse yourself in the lush, tropical beauty of O'ahu during this adventurous hiking and swimming tour of the Ko’olau mountains, from Hale'iwa!
The Ko’olau mountains on O'ahu are one of Hawai'i’s most striking natural wonders and are a designated National Natural Landmark. Stretching across the eastern side of O'ahu, the Ko’olau mountains, formed from the remnants of an ancient volcanic shield, spear the sky with their vertiginous peaks and stand out with their deep ridges swathed in emerald cover. Within this mythical mountain mass are numerous hiking trails, waterfalls, vibrant flora and fauna just waiting for you to discover this enchanting corner of O'ahu!
To begin your hiking tour of the Ko’olau mountains, you will meet your local guide in Hale'iwa town, on O'ahu’s North Shore. From there, you will board a 4-wheel drive that will take you into the heart of the island through scenic back roads until you reach the private trail-head that you will be venturing down! Serene and secluded, this is not a hike that is widely known to visitors or locals, but one that will take those privileged few into a whole new hidden world on O'ahu. The hiking trail includes more than ten stream crossings and will take you through an incredible variety of tropical flowers and fruits, such as wild tangerines, liliko’i (passion fruit), ‘ohiʻa ‘ai (mountain apple), mango, hau (sea hibiscus), and more!
As you hike along the Ko’olau mountain trail, your guide will regale you with stories of Hawai'i, the islands’ history, language, and environment for an enriching addition to the trail adventure and amazing views that will surround you. At the end of the hike, for the cherry on top of this unique hiking experience on O'ahu, you will have the chance to swim in a natural, freshwater pool! There is nothing more refreshing or memorable than jumping into a sparkling mountain pool after a vigorous hike!
