Take a walk on the ice side on this magical day trip from Reykjavík to the majestic Sólheimajökull glacier with special stops along the way. Located only 160 km from Reykjavík, this is currently one of the most accessible ice cave tours here in Iceland!
Your day begins when you are picked up at your pre-selected pick-up location by your instructor. They will drive you to the BSI Bus Terminal where you meet your guide for the day. You will switch into a comfortable mini-bus and begin your journey along the South Coast towards the glacier Sólheimajökull. You are then fitted with glacier equipment and can enjoy some coffee/tea. When ready, your guide will lead you to the tip of the 11km long glacier route, where your adventure begins. The hike to the ice cave is about 1-1.5 hours each way, where you cross the stunning glacier landscape, with spectacular ice formations and crevasses, colored by the signature volcanic ash of Icelandic glaciers.
Once you get to the ice cave, you will have ample time to explore the cave, take pictures and explore the area. Your knowledgeable guide will be happy to tell you all about the formation of the Icelandic ice caves, the geology, or anything you find in the cave.
On the way back to Reykjavík, you will stop by the stunning Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls.
