After being picked up at a bus stop near your accommodations in Reykjavík, the adventure begins! You'll board the minibus and set off for the Southern Coast. Throughout the tour, your certified and knowledgeable guide will share insights into the geology and culture of Iceland in addition to ensuring your safety while glacier hiking!
The impressive Skógafoss waterfall is the first stop on your journey. One of the largest waterfalls in Iceland, it measures a whopping 65 metres (213 feet) tall and 25 metres (82 feet) wide. Then, you'll head to the renowned Sólheimajökull glacier, which is part of the larger Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, covering the active Katla volcano. Upon arrival, your instructor will provide a safety briefing and ensure your glacier hiking equipment (helmet, harness, and crampons) is securely fastened. They will also give an introduction to glacier hiking techniques. Get ready for an experience to remember! You'll explore the features of the glacier and learn more about its formation while taking in the awe-inspiring panorama.
The tour continues to the stunning black sand beach in Reynisfjara, which is also known for its otherworldly basalt columns and incredible rock formations. The majestic Seljalandsfoss waterfall is the last stop of the day where you'll experience the thrill of walking behind the rushing water!

Practical information
- Pick-up in Reykjavík (may take up to 30 minutes)
- Approx. 2 hour 15 minutes minibus journey to the first stop at Skógafoss waterfall
- Head to the Sólheimajökull glacier (approx. 15-minute drive) for the glacier hike
- Stop at Reynisfjara beach south of Vík
- Return by minibus to Reykjavík with a stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall on the way (approx. 50-minute drive from Vík)
Hiking boots must be worn: it will not be possible to add the crampons required for the activity to other footwear.
It is very important to wear warm clothing, preferably waterproof so that you can enjoy the excursion to the full.
