Embark on an incredible full-day sightseeing tour to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon from Reykjavík and experience Iceland's stunning natural wonders!
The sightseeing tour to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon departs from Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland. Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is one of Iceland's most popular natural phenomenons, situated along the famous Ring Road at the base of Vatnajökull Glacier, the largest ice cap in Europe.
The full-day tour to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon begins with pick-up from the starting point in Reykjavík. After meeting your friendly and experienced guide, you'll set off on a 1.5-hour scenic bus drive to the town of Hvolsvöllur. You'll stop at the Lava Centre to grab some light snacks and take a break. The tour continues to Vík í Mýrdal, a charming town. When looking towards the shore from Vík, you'll be able to see Reynisdrangar, a group of towering basalt sea stacks.
After a quick break in Vík and a lunch stop in Freysnes Restaurant (not included in the tour price), you'll continue driving to the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon. The lagoon is formed from the receding waters of the Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. It is home to enormous, ancient icebergs and has been featured in two James Bond movies. During the sightseeing tour at Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, you'll visit Diamond Beach.
Breiðamerkursandur, or Diamond Beach, lies adjacent to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon. It gets its name from the 'diamonds' (icebergs) that wash up on the shore after floating from the lagoon. You'll enjoy the beautiful view of the black sand beach and capture some photos. After, you'll continue the sightseeing tour to Vík í Mýrdal, where you'll stop again for dinner (not included in the price). The final stop on the trip is at two iconic waterfalls - Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss!
Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland's most impressive waterfalls, is part of the Seljalandsá River, which originates from Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. At Seljalandsfoss, you'll have the unique opportunity to walk behind the waterfall! Make sure to wear rain gear as you will get wet from the powerful spray of the waterfall. The second waterfall, Skógafoss, marks the beginning of the popular hike from Fimmvörðuháls to Þórsmörk, and was used in the filming of Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. After experiencing the breathtaking waterfalls, the guide will drive you back to the starting point in Reykjavík.
