The tongue of the Vatnajökull glacier at the foot of Hvannadalshnjúkur, Iceland's highest peak, the Falljökull glacier is the ideal place to discover glacier trekking and caving in ice caves from Skaftafell. Accompanied by a qualified guide who will tell you the story of the formation of this glacier, as well as its evolution towards the ocean, you will spend 1.5 to 2 hours exploring the ice, surrounded by incredible scenery.
During the hike, you will take advantage of the formation of ice caves that only occur in winter to discover caving in the Falljökull glacier: each cave is unique and will amaze you with its formations and different shades of blue! You will have the chance to visit an ephemeral site in perpetual evolution, a magical experience accessible to everyone from the age of 8.

Practical information
- Meeting with the guide at the Arctic Adventures base in Skaftafell
- 20-minute drive with the guide to the foot of the Falljökull glacier
- Briefing on the activity, safety instructions and equipment
- 5-minute approach walk to the glacier
- Glacier hike for around 1 ~ 1.5 hours and caving in an ice cave for around 30 minutes
- 5-minute walk back to the vehicle, de-equipping, return to the base and end of the activity
Hiking boots must be worn: it will not be possible to add the crampons required for the activity to other footwear.
It is very important to wear warm clothing, preferably waterproof, so that you can enjoy the excursion to the full.
This tour is highly dependent on weather conditions (including temperature, safety, and accessibility). Ice caves must be treated with the utmost respect in regards to the ceiling being supportive along with other factors.
Please give yourself plenty of time to drive from Reykjavík: in good conditions, the journey takes approx. 4.5 hours without stops, but with poor weather or road conditions, the journey will take longer.
