The adventure begins at the meeting point in Alta, where you’ll be greeted by the guide and embark on a 30-minute drive in a comfortable minibus to Gargia Lodge, located at Gargia Forest. This is a serene and picturesque forest with plenty of scenic trails. Upon arrival, you’ll be provided with warm and cosy Arctic clothing, and the certified instructor will provide a thorough training on dog sledding. No previous experience is needed! Then, you’ll meet the adorable and friendly Huskies and get set up with your own team of dogs. Each sled will be shared between two participants, with one driver and one passenger and the chance to switch midway.

The Huskies will lead you through the pine forest and up to the stunning Finnmarksvidda plateau, with vast open landscapes. You’ll travel through the snow-covered wilderness and take in the breathtaking panoramic views. After the Arctic adventure, you’ll return to the lodge. Hot coffee and tea will be served to warm you up as the guide shares insights about dog sledding and the region’s local history. After saying goodbye to your furry friends, you’ll be driven back to the starting point in Alta.

On this self-drive dog sledding excursion, you'll be driven from Alta to Gargia Forest. You'll drive your own team of huskies in pairs, with one driver and one passenger and the chance to switch midway.

Course of events

- Arrive at the meeting point in Alta

- Drive to Gargia Lodge (approximately 30 minutes)

- Receive Arctic clothing and dog sledding instructions

- Meet the Huskies and set up the sled

- The dog sledding adventure begins!

- Drive your own team of dogs on the Finnmarksvidda plateau (approximately 50 minutes)

- Return to Gargia Lodge

- Enjoy hot drinks

- Return drive to the starting point in Alta (approximately 30 minutes)
