Swap snow for sand and conquer the scorching dunes of South Africa's Western Cape with sandboarding lessons in Hout Bay!

Swap snow for sand and conquer the scorching dunes of South Africa's Western Cape with sandboarding a session in Hout Bay!

South Africa's fastest growing action sport, the hot sands just outside Cape Town might seem like a strange place to take your shred sled - but you're about to learn why sandboarding is blowing up as a faster, wilder and exotic alternative to traditional snowboarding. Africa's tallest commercial sand dunes, Hout Bay's 250metre high beach pistes are quite the hike - but the views from the top are worth every step!

Location
Operating in two popular sandboarding locations outside of Cape Town, Hout Bay and Betty's Bay are the two biggest commercial sandboarding locations near Cape Town. Hout Bay is on the Cape Peninsula near Table Mountain National Park and is renowned for its offshore breaker called 'Dungeon' - one of the most dangerous waves in the world. It's sand dunes rise 250 m high and look out onto the surfing beach - making it a popular spot during the big wave season. Betty's Bay in Silver Sands is popular with free-riders who use Blesberg Dune to perform tricks overlooking Walker Bay - a whale-watching hotspot.

Activity
Meet your instructor at the activity centre for a 2-hour sandboarding group session on the Hout Bay or Betty's Bay dunes. Driving out into the dunes, you will receive a short safety briefing and kit breakdown on the flats before moving up the incline to master the basics. Learn how to link your turns on the wide golden dunes or remove your bindings and speed down to the beach on sand skeleton boarding races! Our advice: don't forget to close your mouth...
