Fully immerse yourself in Sweden's winter wonderland by ice fishing in the company of an experienced, local guide!
In Northern Sweden, ice fishing is an ancient tradition and one of the country's favorite winter pastimes! Bundle up, head out into the frozen landscape with an experienced local guide, and spend a few hours ice fishing!
After meeting your guide, Frederik, at the pre-determined meeting point of your choosing in Kalix, you'll be shuttled to Lake Rågravträsket. Upon arrival, your guide will go through some basic techniques and set you up with a special, smaller fishing rod that is specifically used for ice fishing.
Since the ice is usually about 60 - 100 cm (23 - 39 inches) thick, he will use a special drill to make a fishing hole. The chilly water in Lake Rågravträsket is crystal clear, refreshing, and delicious to drink! You can find farmed Arctic char, trout, grayling, and perch in the waters.
However, if you'd prefer to catch wild fish, your guide can take you to the River Kalix, which is just 1 km (0.6 miles) away. There, you can try your luck catching grayling, whitefish, or perch!
During this relaxing experience, you'll also be treated to a Swedish Fika (hot drinks and pastries) break! After a memorable time spent outdoors, you'll head back to Kalix.
