Practical information
During this course you will learn to become an autonomous kiter as safely as possible.
This course consists of 3 x 3 hour lessons.
Level 1: (on land)
- Know safe wind directions for kiting
- Set up your equipment safely
- Carry and handle the kite properly
- Launch and land the trainer kite with an assistant
- Twist and untwist the lines while flying
- Walk and change directions while flying the kite
- Know the wind window
- Control the harness hooked into the harness
- Understand the de-power system and can use the safety system (with one and both hands)
Level 2: (in the water)
- Enter and exit the water independently and safely while controlling the kite
- Water re-launch the kite
- Change direction to the left and right while body dragging
- Know how to body drag with 1 hand
- Know the safety rule and theory for water start
- Can put the board on your feet and maintain the correct position for water start
- Water start in both directions and ride a short distance
- Come to a controlled stop
- Determine the wind strength, direction and quality
- Know the right of way rules
- Know equipment set-up and choose according to the wind conditions
Level 3:
- Control the riding speed by edging
- Toeside edging
- Consistent riding in all directions including upwind
- Ride amongst other riders and water users and respect the right of way rules
- Change directions without stopping
- Make a toeside turn
- Risk assessment and awareness of the riding area
- Self-launch
- Know the theory and safety rule for jumping
- Land a basic jump
Minimum weight: 35 kg
All participants over 60 must provide a medical certificate from their GP dated within the last 3 months, stating that they are allowed to practice this activity.
