Drive your own dog sled on this self-drive dog sledding excursion from Fairbanks!
- No previous mushing experience is required
- You will drive your own team of 4-6 dogs with the help of your guide
- 4-6 miles (6 to 9.5km) of trail
Please allow 3hrs in total for this activity, including 1 hour of dog sledding.
- Please arrive within 5 minutes of your tour start time.
- Check-in at the check-in sign at the top of the driveway.
- Meet your guide.
- Equipment : parkas, boots, and mitts.
- Get a lesson on how to drive the sled.
- Help your guide to harness the dogs.
- Enjoy your self-drive dog sledding excursion through the boreal forest and frozen bogs of Interior Alaska.
- Midway through the tour, you will pull over for photos.
- You will then hop back on the runners for the second part of your dog sled excursion through the boreal forest of Fairbanks.
- Upon your return, you will unharness the dogs and thank them for the trip before heading inside where you can remove your frost-covered outerwear before saying good-bye.
Participants must be in good health to participate and have no current injuries. It is also important to have decent physical stamina & cardiovascular fitness as well as decent upper body strength and good balance.
If you can comfortably hike 2-3 miles (3 to 5km) in hilly terrain, you are fit enough to drive your own dog sled on this tour.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult and children who are 11 and under must ride in the Guide’s Sled.
This activity isn't accessible to women who are pregnant past the second trimester, people with mental disorders and people with physical disabilities.
Please arrive within 5 minutes of your tour start time but not earlier since the guides need to prepare everything for the tour.
Upon arrival, you can park at the bottom of the driveway and walk up. Check-in at the check-in sign at the top of the driveway.
