Practical information

A 5-6 hour excursion in the lower Bitet canyon near Laruns with a professional guide.

  • The route doesn't always offer any escape routes.
  • Natural slides up to 10 m high (32ft).
  • Abseiling over 30m (98ft).
Course of events

Please allow a full day for this activity, including around 5.5 hours of canyoning.

  • Meet at the college car park (opposite the Locaski shop) in Laruns.
  • Set up the equipment.
  • Drive to the canyon in your own vehicle.
  • Approach walk (30 minutes max).
  • Briefing by your instructor on the activity, equipment and safety rules.
  • A 5-6 hour excursion to the lower Bitet canyon.
  • A maximum 30-minute walk back to your vehicle.
  • Back to the meeting point.
  • Return of equipment and debriefing.
Activity requirements

You need to be able to swim, be in good physical condition and have good canyoning experience to take part in this activity.

You must bring your own vehicle to the meeting point. Transport to the canyon is not provided.

A minimum of 4 participants is required to take part.

Special terms

The route includes abseiling descents that may be watered and can exceed 30 metres (98ft). You will help the instructor with rope handling.

The commitment is sporting, the environment is isolated and the route doesn't always have any escape routes.

  • 2-piece 5mm isothermal neoprene suit (jacket + overalls)
  • Neoprene socks
  • Fully equipped harness (lanyards, karabiners, descender)
  • Headset (some with Go Pro attachment)
  • Collective equipment (bags, cans, ropes, etc.)
  • Bag and water bottle for your picnic
Do not forget to bring
  • Sport shoes with laces and grip that will get wet
  • Spare shoes
  • Swimsuit
  • Bath towel
  • Synthetic sports T-shirt (Lycra or equivalent)
  • Easy-to-carry picnic in a rucksack with a waterproof water bottle (bag and water bottle provided by the guide)
