Before climbing the frozen waterfall, you'll need to get to the climbing site, deep in the wilderness around Whitehorse. There's a 1-hour drive to get there, followed by a 40-minute hike to the frozen waterfall. You'll then be able to appreciate the beauty of the Yukon's snow-covered expanses already, impatient to start climbing the frozen waterfall!
Once you arrive at the climbing site, your guide will teach you the basic techniques of ice climbing. When you're ready, you can finally set off for a session at your own rythm! As the frozen waterfall has several sections, you can rest regularly or even take photos during the climb. Your guide will place the anchors and belay you from the top. You'll always be securely attached to a rope from your harness. Finally, to finish your ice climbing session in the Yukon, there's no need to abseil back down, as a hiking trail runs alongside the waterfall.

Practical information
Day trip from Whitehorse to discover ice climbing. The excursion includes 3 to 4 hours of climbing and a 1 hour 10 minutes hike to the frozen waterfall and back.
- 8 people per group max.
Please allow a full day for this activity including 3 to 4 hours of ice climbing.
- Pick-up from your accomodation or you can meet directly your guide at the rental shop at the Mt Sima Ski Hill.
- Start the day at the rental shop at the Mt Sima Ski Hill, located 15 minutes outside of Whitehorse.
- Select your equipment for the day.
- Once you are packed and ready, the drive to the trailhead is approximately 1 hour.
- From the trailhead, there is a 40 minute hike on a snowy trail. Be prepared to carry a heavy pack containing ice axes, crampons, and your food and water for the day.
- Once you reach your destination, you will take a short break to hydrate and learn a few basic ice climbing techniques.
- When you are ready, you gear up and climb to the top of the waterfall! Your guide will place the anchors and belay you from above. You will always be safely attached to a rope from your harness.
- During the climb, you set the pace! Throughout the day there are plenty of opportunities for snacks, hot drinks, and photos of the stunning landscape.
- When you are satisfied with your waterfall adventure experience, you can walk down the trail beside the waterfall (no need to rappel) and share memories of the day with your guide and team as you return to the vehicle.
- Finally, you will take off your equipment and be driven back to your accomodation or starting point.
No climbing experience is necessary, but you should have a moderate fitness level and be comfortable hiking on a snowy trail with a heavy pack containing ice axes, crampons, and your food and water for the day.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
The lunch has both vegetarian and meat options.
