Immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness of Finnish Lapland on this 2.5-hour snowshoeing excursion Ylläs. Welcoming ages 4 and up!
Snowshoeing has been practised in Finland for centuries. The country's indigenous Sámi people, who have inhabited the region for thousands of years, used snowshoes made from natural materials like wood and animal hides to travel across the snow-covered landscapes. Although the materials have changed, snowshoeing remains integral to the fabric of winter culture in Finnish Lapland and Ylläs.
Whether you choose between being picked up at one of the listed locations in Ylläs or meeting onsite (please specify when booking), your adventure begins after meeting your experienced guide. You and your group (a maximum of 40 people) will be outfitted in winter gear, including thermal overalls, boots, wool socks, a scarf, a hat, gloves, and of course, snowshoes. Once you've received your safety briefing along with an introduction to snowshoeing techniques, the fun starts!
You and your guide will set out into the enchanting snow-capped boreal forests surrounding the village of Ylläsjärvi towards frozen marshlands. In total, you will traverse 2-3 km (1.2-1.8 miles). Once you've arrived at the marsh, your guide will make a campfire and you will be treated to hot drinks and biscuits. While you enjoy a relaxing break, you'll learn about animal tracks and the diverse wildlife of the region.
Make the most of your time in Finland by joining this snowshoeing excursion in Ylläs!
