Discover Dublin’s coastline and rich history with a kayaking excursion towards the Skerries Islands!
Discover Dublin’s coastline and rich history with a kayaking excursion to the Skerries Islands! Skerries is a seaside town in north Dublin with five islands off its coastline. Three islands grouped together are known as the Skerries Islands: Shenick, St. Patrick’s, and Colt. Each island played its own role in Ireland’s wondrous history from Viking trading posts to fortifications against the Napoleonic Wars. On this trip, you will get the chance to discover all three Skerries Islands while coasting the waters in between.
The journey will start from the beach near Martello Tower where your guide will give you a rundown of all safety instructions. Then it’s time to hop in the kayak and get started! You will paddle for about 20 minutes towards Shenick’s Island, named after the Irish word for fox and the largest of the three islands. After some time on land (and a few pictures of course!) you will head another 20 minutes to Colt Island where you will be able to go for a swim if the weather permits! Then it’s back in the kayak to St. Patrick’s Island. You will walk around and soak in the incredible history before heading back to shore…legend says St. Patrick landed here when he first came to Ireland.
This kayaking session is suitable for all levels, from beginners to total experts.
