Looking for an authentic Norwegian experience? Join an adventurous reindeer sledding trip in Tromsø!

Tromsø is a vibrant city in the north of Norway, renowned for its unique landscapes and Arctic experiences. On this reindeer sledding excursion from Tromsø, you'll visit an authentic farm located just outside of the city.

The reindeer sledding trip in Tromsø begins at the meeting point in the city centre. You'll be greeted by the friendly guide and board a comfortable bus for your transfer to the reindeer farm. During the 25-minute drive, you'll be treated to mesmerising views of Tromsø's surrounding mountains and fjords. Upon arrival at the camp, you'll meet the adorable reindeer! After being greeted by the herd of over 300 reindeer, it's time for your reindeer sledding ride in Tromsø.

You can choose a short or long excursion when booking. After getting set up on the traditional sled, which seats 2 participants, the reindeer will pull you on an exciting ride in the wilderness! The guide will lead you around the valley and along the coast, offering incredible views of the Arctic scenery. The short ride lasts approximately 10-15 minutes, whereas the long ride is approximately 25-30 minutes.

After returning to the camp, you'll help feed the reindeer, quickly becoming acquainted with the magical creatures. Some may even eat right from your hand! Afterwards, your guide will teach you how to use a lasso and you'll practice the new skill on a target. The Sami people, the original inhabitants of Scandinavia, have been living side by side with reindeer for centuries. This is your chance to have a taste of their amazing culture. The reindeer herders will teach you about these majestic animals and their role in Sami culture.

The exciting reindeer farm visit in Tromsø will end with a delicious meal. You'll gather inside the lavvu (Sami tent) for a traditional lunch of bidos (reindeer stew), followed by hot drinks and cookies. As you warm up in a cosy tent around a campfire, you'll immerse yourself in Sami culture by hearing stories about the history and listening to joiking (traditional Sami folk songs). Afterwards, you'll be driven back to the starting point in Tromsø city.

My partner and I loved the reindeer sledding and visiting/feeding the reindeers. They are adorable and have great personalities. The scenery was gorgeous and it was a winter wonderland. We didn’t expect to also love the Sami cultural stories as much as we did — we decided if we are lucky enough to visit Tromsø again, we would like to spend more time with the Sami next time. Our Sami guide told us about their traditions, what life is like for them today, traditional songs, and much more. It was a wonderful day and we’d highly recommend the entire experience to anyone!!

The reindeer farm and sledding activity were amazing. We had ample time to feed the reindeer before the ride. There were also warm drinks and food provided after the sledding.

I thought this was a very unique way to see the Arctic and would do it again. I especially enjoyed feeding the reindeer and soaking in the area.

We really enjoyed this tour. It is very nice to spend time feeding the massive amount of reindeers. And very nice of them to keep track and make sure to make it to the sledding as well, cause it was easy to lose track of time with the feeding.
