Guided Hike around the Paiva walkways and the 516 Arouca Bridge, Aveiro

Porto is the second most famous city in Portugal after Lisbon. But did you know that just 1 hour away from this city is Arouca, recognised as a UNESCO Geopark since 2009? This geopark is of great value for its pedras parideiras de Castanheira, but also because in the Freita mountain range, where it is located, there are ideal conditions for canyoning, climbing and rafting on the rapids of the Paiva river. The fame of this river is due to its many bridges and walkways that cross it, especially the 516 Arouca bridge, the largest suspension bridge in the world.

NaTour Way instructors will guide you on an 8 kilometre hike along the Paiva walkways crossing the different bridges. The hiking tour starts at Praia Fluvial do Areínho, a 20 minute drive from Arouca and 1 hour from Porto and includes the entrance ticket to the different walkways and the 516 Arouca Bridge. There you will meet your guide who will take you around the Paiva river passing by the Paiva gorge, the Aguieiras waterfall and the Vau river beach and explain the geological importance of these different geographical features. In addition, during the tour you will cross the Paiva river by its different walkways, including the 516 Arouca bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world at 516 metres long and 175 metres high. Simply breathtaking! At the end of the tour, the instructor will take you back to the meeting point by jeep. The route is not very difficult, so even the youngest members of the family can enjoy the Paiva walkways , but it is important not to have vertigo.
