Saint-Pierre: What to do when you get there?
Discover the activities to do in Saint-Pierre! On the south coast of Réunion Island, Saint-Pierre is the ideal starting point to discover the island and its relief by helicopter from its small airport.
Situated between Saint-Louis and Saint-Joseph, the town of Saint-Pierre is an unmissable stop for many tourists on Réunion Island. Indeed, there are many things to do in and around Saint-Pierre, including the most popular activity in the area: panoramic helicopter tours. From Saint-Pierre / Pierrefonds airport, you can board a helicopter to admire the spectacular scenery of the Réunion Island from the sky. This is one of the most impressive aerial activities you should not miss!
On land, Saint-Pierre offers other things to do and nice places to discover. If you are a food lover, it is recommended to visit the market of Saint-Pierre to discover the Creole culinary specialties and to buy local products such as vanilla pods, sugar cane, pineapple, spices, etc. The Rum Saga Museum is also a must-see, with a complimentary tasting.
You can walk or ride a segway around the city, along the seafront, its white sandy beach and marina, stopping at the colourful Tamil temple, before passing through the Terre Sainte district, a former fishing village. Saint-Pierre is the last town on the west coast with a lagoon, so don't hesitate to take advantage of it for a last snorkeling session if you plan to continue your trip south.
North of Saint-Pierre, go to the village of l'Entre-Deux: located between two arms of the river, this charming village has typical Reunionese houses with Creole architecture, the huts. A visit to this village is a must if you are passing through Saint-Pierre, especially as it is home to the Bras de la Plaine bridge (or Entre-Deux bridge), one of the highest in Réunion Island. Thrill-seekers will be delighted to be able to go bungee jumping or pendulum jumping, but also to take the Nepalese bridge suspended at a height of 115 m.
You can also go buggy riding, mountain biking or horseback riding in the Saint-Pierre area to enjoy the many breathtaking landscapes and views. And if you like caving, a visit to the blue lava tunnel in the commune of Le Tampon is sure to amaze you.
If you want to complete your trip in Réunion Island with some new sensational activities, then head to Saint-Pierre, a region with no shortage of things to do!
