Set out into Finland's magical winter wonderland on this 2-hour, guided backcountry skiing tour from Saariselkä! Welcoming adventurers ages 12 and up, no prior experience required.
Located in Northern Finland (Finnish Lapland), the village of Saariselkä is situated within the Arctic Circle and is known for its stunning Arctic landscapes and proximity to Urho Kekkonen National Park. This region is characterized by its wild forests, tundra, and fells. It is a premier destination for outdoor adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Immerse yourself in the Arctic winter by skiing in Saariselkä!
Your adventure begins at the meeting point in Saariselkä where you'll be greeted by your experienced instructor. You and your group (a maximum of 6 participants) will receive a safety and itinerary briefing, followed by your equipment (backcountry skis and poles). Then, your guide will provide an introduction to backcountry skiing and skiing techniques. Since backcountry skis are longer and wider than cross-country skis, they help to better traverse soft and deep snow.
Once everyone feels comfortable, the fun starts! You'll set out into the Arctic wilderness, away from the ski trails, savouring the tranquillity of nature as you go. Don't forget to keep an eye out for local wildlife! If luck is on your side, you may observe rabbits, reindeer, and diverse species of birds in their natural habitat. Midway through the excursion, you'll be treated to a hot drink. The perfect way to warm up from the frigid Arctic temperatures! You'll return to the original departure point in Saariselkä, happy with your time spent in Finnish Lapland.
