Spend 3 days on a guided tour around the massif of Mount Olympus from the West to the East and explore the highest peaks

Enjoy a guided tour around the massif of Mount Olympus. With the experienced guides of Olympus Path, you will pass 3 days trekking on the highest peaks of mount Olympus enjoying incredible views of the mountain of Gods.

About the mountain:
Olympus was notable in Ancient Greek Mythology as the home of the Twelve Olympians, on the Mytikas peak. Mount Olympus is also noted for its very rich flora with several species. It has been the first National Park of Greece, since 1938, and a World's Biosphere Reserve. Looking down is a fantastic view of the valley and the endless sandy coastline of the Aegean Sea. Looking up, at Zeus' throne, it is a breathtaking view of the top of the mountain.

This vacation package is addressed to real mountain lovers who will enjoy a daily 7-8 hours of trekking on the pathways of the mountain and will not mind being accommodated in the common rooms of the mountain refuges.

How to reach Olympus:
Litochoro can be reached by a direct train from Thessaloniki-Athens, getting off at Litochoro station or by bus.

Level Requirements:
Good trekking skills for 5-6 hours per day, mostly following good forest paths; above the tree – line, the terrain varies from grassy uplands to rocky ridges, with some scrambling required for the peak ascents. A good level of fitness and experience is required to climb the peak and the guide reserves the right to make the final decision if we climb the final peak.

Around Litochoro:
Being the entrance to Olympus Mountain, Litochoro is surrounded by places of astounding natural beauty but also by historical monuments e.g. Dion and the castle of Platamonas. Only 5km from the seaside it is also an ideal place to enjoy both mountain and sea vacations. Ag. Panteleimonas on the mountains and Leptokaryes, by the sea, are two other picturesque villages in the area, worth visiting. You cannot leave of course without visiting the fascinating antiquities of Dion, an archaeological park with theatres and temples dedicated to Zeus.

Course of events

1st Day:
Litochoro & Walk to Refuge A - Spilios Agapitos, alt. 2.100 m (Estimated Walking Time: approx. 3 hours)
Arrive and meet your guide and the rest of the group in Litochoro. Transfer to Prionia, where you begin to hike, at an altitude of 1.100 meters. The route from Prionia to Spilios Agapitos Refuge is the most frequented hiking path on Mount Olympus and makes up a part of the E4. Prionia is the highest point which can be reached by car. Most of the hike is through a thick forest of pine, beech and fir trees, and the path is in good condition. You will be ascending to 2.100m alt. to reach the refuge.

2nd Day - Summit Day:
Peak ascents – Refuge Ch. Kakkalos, alt. 2,700 m (Estimated Walking Time 6- 8 hours)

From the refuge, a zig-zagging path will bring you just under the mountain's main summits. From there you have two options according to the group's fitness and weather conditions: Either climb first Skala at 2.882 meters and then cross a narrow ridge climb to the summit of Skolio at 2,911 meters. Or if weather permits and there is no snow, you will ascent to the main summit - Mytikas (2.917meters), Greece’s highest peak, following a narrow gorge ( it involves about 150 m of scrambling )! ( 4-5 hrs walking on narrow paths – some scrambling involved – altitude gain of 800m ). After reaching the summit you shall descent by the same way to the main path and cross the spectacular precipice under the summit of Stefani - the throne of Zeus- you emerge to the plateau of the Mouses – an alpine plateau at an altitude of 2,700m where a small but friendly refuge will accommodate you (2-3 hrs walking).

3rd Day:
Plateau of the Muses - Petrostrougka Refuge alt 1,940m – Gkortsia (Estimated Walking Time 5- 6 hours)

This is an easy day. Before starting to descend, you will climb a small peak – named Profitis Ilias – just above the refuge to admire superb views of Mt Olympus summits. You will follow another path this time for the descent. In almost 2 hours you will meet a new refuge, the refuge of Hellenic rescue team (Petrostrougka refuge 1.940m) where you can have lunch or relax from there the end of the tour is near, and after the small break, you have to continue until the next destination - Gkortsia, which is the last point (2–3 hours walking).
