Embark on a unique immersion trip to a traditional reindeer farm in Tromsø followed by a taste of local culture for an authentic Norwegian experience!
Tromsø is a renowned city in northern Norway, popular for its dramatic landscapes and opportunities for true Arctic experiences. On this reindeer feeding excursion in Tromsø, you'll visit a Sami camp located outside of the city.
For this trip, you'll be picked up from the meeting point in Tromsø by the experienced guide and embark on a 25-minute bus drive to the reindeer farm. Along the way, you'll enjoy mesmerising views of the pristine Arctic landscapes. Upon arrival at the camp in the wilderness, you'll be greeted by the local reindeer herders and over 300 magical reindeer! You'll start the excursion by helping to feed these beautiful creatures. As they become more comfortable with your presence, they may even eat from the palm of your hand!
After touring the reindeer farm in Tromsø, you'll gather inside a cosy lavvu (Sami tent) for a traditional 3-course meal, consisting of a cold smoked salmon starter, delicious 'bidos' (reindeer stew) for the main course, dessert, and hot drinks (vegan/vegetarian options are available upon request). While you enjoy your hearty meal, you'll learn more about the rituals, culture and history of the Sami people, the indigenous group in Scandinavia. You'll listen to stories and time-honoured Sami folk music called joiking. On a clear night, you may even catch the awe-inspiring Northern Lights!
