Val Thorens: The Must-Do Activities

Val Thorens: What to do when you get there?

Situated in Tarentaise Valley, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe, sitting at an altitude of 2,300 metres. The renowned resort is a part of the 3 Vallées ski area which is all interconnected; it has over 600 km of skiable slopes, making it the biggest connected ski domain in the world.

The resort is usually open from mid-November to early May, giving winter sports enthusiasts’ ample time to enjoy the spectacular panoramas and natural landscapes. Two of the highest skiable summits, are Pointe du Bouchet (3220 metres) and Cime de Caron (3200 metres) that has a cable car of the same name, which incidentally happens to be one of the biggest in the world.

Majority of the slopes face north and north-west which means that they are not as sunny as other resorts. They do, however, retain great skiing conditions for longer – attracting a lot of experienced skiers rather than holidaymakers.

As well as a combination of 68 marked runs, Val Thorens also has 5 terrain parks giving access to bordercross tracks, quarter pipes and jumps.

Not just limited to skiing, at Val Thorens you can practice a large variety of winter activities. The most popular among them are: ice diving, mountain biking on snow, airbag, ice driving, paragliding, para-motor and even zip-lining.
