Charlevoix: What to do when you get there?

Over the last few decades, Charlevoix has modernised to remain attractive. Specialized in sawmills and the dairy industry, it was finally the naval industry that allowed the region to really develop, notably the construction of boats such as schooners. Tourism is now the main activity in Charlevoix, well served by its train station and airport, the region benefits from breathtaking scenery and many activities to do!

Located north of Quebec City and south of Saguenay, Charlevoix borders the St. Lawrence River. The main city of the region is Baie-Saint-Paul, located in the middle of the region, it benefits from a train station that connects the city to La Malbaie and is crossed by the Gouffre River. Its Île aux Coudres is known as a place where one can easily observe the local wildlife. Charlevoix also benefits from part of the Laurentian nature reserve and its many lakes for beautiful natural scenery!

Covered with 90% of forests and vegetation, Charlevoix is a green region that wishes to remain so and fight for ecology. All these natural landscapes inspire many artists and make Charlevoix a reference in art. We had a wonderful day canoeing the La Malbaie river.... the canoes were excellent, the river serene and peaceful and the scenery stunning. A wonferful experience not to be missed!
It was my first time on a sea kayak. I did this activity with my mom. It was her first time ad well. I’m 40, she’s 60, and we really enjoyed our time on the St Laurent. It was definitely doable, easy to understand how to maneuver, and most importantly : we saw soooo many whales and grey seals and porpoises! It was absolutely amazing!
