Ponga: What to do when you get there?
Located in the northern region of Spain you’ll find Ponga. A dream location in between the Natural Park of Redes and the National Park of Picos de Europa.
Best known as Ponga Natural Park is situated in the centre of the Cantabrian Range. beautiful natural spot of 205 square km. Nature lush, steep slopes, meadows and towering limestone mountains are the first thing travellers encounter.
The particular landscape of the Natural Park of Ponga has endless rivers, high slopes, and narrow valleys. Actually, almost 40% of the park lies at an altitude of between 800 and 1200m above sea level, with drops of up to 400m.
The mountainous panoramas include the imposing peak of Peña Ten, at 2100m. Followed by Tiatordos (1951m) and Campigüeños (1838m). All of them renowned in the mountaneer community, where thousands try to conquer its paths.
Due to the diversity of the peaks, there are countless trekking trails as well as mountain biking tracks that can lead up to the highest summits of the park.
Ponga, as unique as itself, has many creeks and streams that flow into the two great rivers of the park: Sella and Ponga. It is common during the spring and summer to see people enjoying of kayaking and rafting in the rapids, especially those which drop between the mountains.
One of the most beautiful places is the Gorge od Beyos. Here you’ll find some of the most interesting via ferrata and canyoning itineraries. With amazing descents, abseiling points and natural water slides that will drop you in beautiful pools of crystal clear waters.
